About Taylor Allan
We have a saying on our team here at Basketball Renegades:
“Follow those who seek the truth. Run from those who claim to have found it.”
I don’t claim to have all the answers. I’m a pretty regular guy, and to be honest… I really struggled early on in my basketball career.
So instead of just “bragging” about myself and my accomplishments, I want to be completely honest, and tell you about the early struggle as well.
Here’s the story:
Like you, I had lofty goals for my basketball career, and I was determined to achieve them at all costs.
I used to train for hours and hours every day – sometimes up to 5 hours a day, 6 days per week. I did the whole “shoot 500 shots per day, do ball wraps and figure 8 drills” for years and years.
What happened was, I got “pretty good” in practices and pickup games, but as soon as I got into a REAL game I was overshadowed by my teammates… Who didn’t even work as hard as I did!
I would struggle through embarrassing games where I’d only score 2 measly points, and then go home with a knot in my throat feeling like I’d never achieve my basketball goals.
And even when I’d have a “good” game, where I’d score 15 or 20 points, the very next game I’d choke again and score two, or even zero.
In fact, up until late in my career, I never averaged more than 11 points per game!
To make matters worse, I started to feel like my coach was favoring the other players on the team… Who I knew I was better than!
Anyway, as you can tell I was FRUSTRATED with my lack of progress, and I started feeling desperate.
I felt like I was “gambling” with my career, wasting endless hours on training that didn’t work.
I started to suspect that the pros knew secrets to training that I didn’t. After all, they would never stand in their freezing cold garage and do ball wraps and figure 8 drills. They would never stand out on their driveway and shoot 500 set shots.
The pros always seemed to do HIGH INTENSITY workouts, with advanced complex drills and periodized training.
To become a pro, you need to train like one, and I was sick of wasting valuable time on useless workouts that didn’t work!
Finally, everything changed when I met a 29 year old Italian Pro League player who was back home for the summer.
I paid him over $1,200 that offseason to show me the REAL way to train… Which turned out to be the exact OPPOSITE of what I had been doing all along!
Our workouts were hyper-intense and laser-focused. Instead of “shooting 500 shots per day” we used something called “Micro Drills” that developed very specific skills.
For example, we used a drill called “Drop Turns” to develop our quick release and shooting footwork. Or “2 Ball Chair Shooting” to integrate ball handling and shooting on the move.
More importantly, I learned how to sequence all these drills and skills together into synergistic workouts that literally “super-charged” my game.
The results were explosive.
My scoring average rocketed from an “OKAY” 11 points per game all the way up to 24 points per game that season.
I was a league all-star, a highly sought-after recruit, and I even earned the “Nation’s Best Shooter” award at the prestigious 5 Star Basketball Camp.
For the first time in my life, I felt completely unstoppable on the court. I could bring the ball up, look my defender in the eyes and just smile… Knowing I could beat him ANY way I wanted to – off the dribble, off the jumper, or in the air.
Best of all, this new talent gave me unshakeable confidence out on the court – the crippling pre-game nerves and self-doubt I felt before completely vanished.
I even earned a basketball scholarship to the school I’d ALWAYS wanted to play for, Wilfred Laurier. My basketball future looked very, very bright.
But just as things were finally coming together for me, it all came crashing down.
During a late night one on one game with my pro trainer, I felt a sickening “pop” in my left hip.
It turns out that while playing Defense, my foot got caught under his, and my hip complete rotated in the capsule, tearing off 1/3 of the cartilage in my hip.
The injury is called “Femoro-Acetabular Impingement with a Labral Tear,” and I was told by two doctors (including one of our national team docs) that I would not play basketball again.
Unfortunately, I’m stubborn. I continued to play and developed several bone spurs around the hip capsule that required an invasive surgery.
After months of rehab, I finally came back and battled through another season, even playing a short stint with a semi-pro team.
But after fighting through the pain for nearly a year, the verdict was in… My basketball days were basically over.
Now, this story isn’t over and the ending isn’t as bad as it seems now.
In fact, my pain and struggle are your benefit.
Here’s why:
Shortly after my final game, when I realized I couldn’t play any longer, I made a crucial decision:
I decided that if I couldn’t achieve my basketball goals, I’d help up and coming players achieve their goals instead!
Luckily, during my high school career I’d built up a lot of notoriety that allowed me to train players in my local area.
As I worked with these players day in and day out, I started to tweak and modify the workouts… Testing and perfecting them until everything was one seamless system that worked over and over again with EVERY player who came through our program.
And as you can see from the testimonials here on this site, the results were absolutely incredible.
Since then, I’ve worked with players at EVERY level of the game, from players as young as 10 years old, all the way up to the pro level.
Eventually, I got serious about my training business and began developing the programs and products that you can see here on this website.
The rest, as they say, is history. I continue to work with a select number of players one-on-one, and we currently reach over 24,000 players across the globe with our online programs.
As for MY OWN basketball career, I guess I’m still trying to figure that out. I can still train in small amounts, and even play once or twice a week… But my any more than that and my surgically repaired hip completely breaks down. I’m still hopeful that there will be a medical breakthrough in the next few years that allows me to step back on the court, and achieve my dream of playing pro basketball.
That’s why I continue to keep my skill levels and athleticism sharp, even now that I’m “done.”
To this day, I can still jump 40 inches, knock down 90-95% of my jumpers in training, and I keep “ball-on-a-string” handles year-round. Not to be cocky, but I can still step on the court and beat most of the pros I train around.
Then again, even if I never get to fix my hip, I’m cool with that too. Training athletes like you has been a dream come true. I know it sounds cheesy, but I get more satisfaction out of seeing one of my players succeed than I do from my own basketball success.
Which brings me back to my original statement:
“Follow those who seek the truth. Run from those who claim to have found it.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers.
But I do believe I have a lot of them. And as you can see here on this website, the results speak for themselves.
So here’s my challenge to you:
Try out our style of High Intensity Basketball Training. Experience those results for yourself. Put it to the test in the gym and make your own decision. After all, your career is in YOUR hands, no matter what anyone else tells you.

Until I received your program I never knew I could play the way I do now, score the way I do, and help my teammates score. You honestly helped me change my game, my mindset, and the way others look at me.
You gave me a confident mindset of knowing that no matter what happens in the next game I play, I have the scoring ability that will help get me to the next level and I am ready to face anyone.
